  About the Show
[ Women in Music with Laney Goodman ]
A Nationally Syndicated Public Radio Show

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

From Reggae to Rock, Folk to Jazz, Blues to World Beat...
Women In Music's Got it All!

October 1st, 2001 marks the five-year anniversary on the Public Radio Satellite with more than 90 national affiliates throughout the U.S.. Produced at the studios of Chart Productions in Back Bay Boston, this highly professional, one-hour radio show features an eclectic mix of excellent female artists from around the world. Each week, you'll hear emerging singer/songwriters like East Coast performers Heather Eatman and Karen Savoca... West Coast artists like Allette Brooks and Fran Gray... you'll hear Americana from Judith Edelman and Terri Hendrix... the progressive sounds of Australia's Fruit... or from Stateside, Blue Number Nine and House of Red... you'll travel across the seas for Celtic fusion with Kila and the British band Equation... you'll catch the world beat of Angelique Kidjo from Benin, Africa and Brazilian jazz artist Vania Abreu... the classic R&B of Ruth Brown and Etta James... and blues with Koko Taylor or the Kelly Richey Band. All this and a few more surprises make this a music show like no other.

This specialty radio show takes the listener on a trip around the world, through the multi-cultural genres of the most talented female artists working yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Whether the music is by a female singer/songwriter working alone, or by a female-fronted band, the common thread that links each piece, is its excellence and the fact that women are performing it. And you'll also hear great seasonal specials for occasions like Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day love songs, Black History Month and Women's History Month.

You'll be hard-pressed to find more variety in similar programs. The host, Laney Goodman, has over 16 years experience as a host and radio producer and club DJ. She's also been a performer over the last 25 years, and has developed connections with many unsigned artists, as well as independent labels, who send their CDs to her and can be heard on Women In Music, when airplay is hard to come by everywhere else. And these musicians are serious professionals. They're excellent musicians who haven't yet broken into the mainstream, although many of them have been working -- and working hard -- for years, honing their craft and shaping their artistic identities with care.
